Cookie policy
Last updated 21 October 2026
This page explains what this site stores on your device, why, and how to change your mind. For how personal information is used more generally, see the privacy policy.
Your choice
Analytics is off until you say yes. The first time you visit, a banner asks whether to allow Google Analytics. "Accept analytics" and "Reject" carry equal weight, and ignoring the banner counts as no.
You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings in the footer of every page. Your choice is remembered for 12 months, then the site asks again.
Strictly necessary storage
These keep the site working as you expect. They do not need consent, and they contain no tracking.
| Name | Where | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
c4_consent |
Cookie | Remembers your analytics choice so the banner does not keep reappearing | 12 months |
appearance |
localStorage | Remembers whether you picked light or dark mode | Until you clear your browser storage |
Analytics (only if you accept)
If you accept, the site loads Google Analytics 4 from Google. It collects how you use the site: pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, and how you arrived. I use it to see which pages are read and to improve the site. [ Confirm: that advertising features are switched off in the Google Analytics property ]
| Name | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
_ga |
Tells one visitor from another | Kept for up to 2 years |
_ga_* |
Keeps session state for the site's Google Analytics property | Kept for up to 2 years |
Google Analytics is provided by Google, which may process this data outside the UK. See Google's own privacy information for details.
Withdrawing consent
Open Cookie settings in the footer, turn Analytics off and choose "Save preferences". The site stops using Google Analytics and removes the _ga and _ga_* cookies it can reach. You can also delete cookies from your browser settings at any time.
