Privacy policy
Last updated 21 October 2026
This is the privacy policy for coded-4.co.uk, a personal portfolio site. It explains what personal information the site handles, why, and what your rights are. It is written to be read, not skimmed past.
Who is responsible
The person responsible for your information (the "data controller" under UK GDPR) is Ash Readman-Thorley. [ Confirm: legal status (for example sole trader), trading name, registered address and ICO registration number, if any ]
For anything in this policy, including requests about your own data, email ashley.rt@live.co.uk.
What the site collects
If you send a message
The contact form asks for your name, email address and message. It also has optional fields for your company and timeline, and a choice of what your message is about. I use these only to read and reply to you. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in answering people who get in touch, and, where you are asking about work, taking steps at your request.
Messages are stored so I can reply and keep a record of the conversation. [ Confirm: how long contact form messages are kept, and where they are stored ] I do not add you to a mailing list because you wrote to me.
If you accept analytics
If you choose "Accept analytics" in the cookie banner, the site loads Google Analytics 4. It records which pages are viewed, roughly where in the world visits come from, the type of device and browser, and how visitors arrive at the site. It sets the _ga and _ga_* cookies to tell visits apart. I use this to see which pages are useful and to improve the site. The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
If you reject analytics, or do nothing, Google Analytics is not loaded and nothing is sent to Google.
The cookie policy lists each cookie and how to change your choice: Cookie policy.
Server logs
Like any website, the server that hosts this site keeps standard access logs (IP address, page requested, time and browser type) for security and fixing faults. [ Confirm: hosting provider and log retention period ]
What is stored on your device without asking
The site remembers your cookie choice and your light or dark mode preference. These are strictly necessary for the site to work as you asked, so they do not need consent. Details are in the cookie policy.
Who else sees your information
- Google, if you accept analytics. [ Confirm: Google's role (processor or independent controller) and the international transfer safeguards that apply ]
- [ Confirm: hosting provider ] and [ Confirm: email provider used to deliver contact form messages ], which process data on my behalf to run the site and deliver your message.
I do not sell your information. [ Confirm: whether Google Analytics advertising features and data sharing are switched off for this site ]
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask me to:
- tell you what I hold about you and give you a copy
- correct anything that is wrong
- delete your information
- limit or object to how I use it
- withdraw consent for analytics at any time, using Cookie settings in the footer
Email ashley.rt@live.co.uk and I will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this policy
If the way the site handles information changes, I will update this page and the "Last updated" date at the top.
